This week my Dell laptop died. It can no longer boot XP at all -- I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor. Sheesh. Now my Dell desktop is limping along. This has been going on for a few weeks and it's getting very annoying. If you look at it wrong it freezes up, I have spent the last two hours just trying to get it to print DHL labels so I can ship some packages!
Our only working computer is Paul's MacBook. So that's it! We're making the switch! We ordered an iMac and it can not get here soon enough!! Yay!

What a headache! I discovered today that AOL was bouncing almost all of emails. When I called tech support they told me it was my software and I needed to re-install it. How can that be!? I argued with them that it was AOL's server -- if it was only my software, the emails wouldn't bounce, they just wouldn't drop into my inbox.
They argued back. It went on for over 30 minutes it was like a game of whose on first. They kept saying it was my software, and I kept trying to explain the way the internet works and that my software has nothing to do with it.
Then they told me that whomever was emailing me must have their settings wrong in IE. I said to him "so you want me to tell everyone on the planet to change their IE settings so that they can email me?" That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard.
I have had it with AOL and now I am changing my email. To me, not getting email means I am losing business and I can't afford that. I have been meaning to do this for over a year anyway but never had the motivation until tonight!! Boy was I mad!! I still am mad! LOL!

It's Thursday and our internet is fixed. Yay! I missed you my lovely high speed internet access. How did I live all those years with only dial up?
This morning, the cable guy comes over and we tell him we think it's the modem that's acting haywire. He says "oh no way this brand modem last forever and never breaks"
He goes outside, messes around comes back in and tells us it's fixed. Then he leaves. We go to check it and it's not fixed. Akkk! The horror! We knew if we had to call the call center again it would be days and days before they would send someone back.
So Paul runs out in the street to try and flag him down. He's left. Then we remembered that he called my cell phone earlier to tell us he was on his way. ha! Yay for "the call list" on cell phones! We called him back and told him it was not fixed.
He was reluctant to come back, telling us we just need to reboot (which I knew was untrue). I pleaded and explained how Paul is taking online classes and must have it fixed by the weekend. So he came back. Guess what! It was our modem that was broken. ha! We were right. hooray! And now Paul can do his school work this weekend. Whew!

tech support tuesday
Our cable internet is down again. So annoying! This time it looks like it's just us and not the whole neighborhood which means I have to wait until Thursday for the cable guy to come. The weirdest part is that it works intermittently. So I keep running in the office to see if it is working and then I rush though my emails to get as many in as I can before it goes down again. It was working for a whole two hours this afternoon. Right now I am on dial up. Ahhh dial up. I forgot how slow it is!
I can't believe tomorrow is Halloween. I know I am going to forget and then wonder why kids are ringing our door bell. We did remember to get some candy this weekend. So I will have it ready. Maybe I'll go put it in a bowl right now!

good news!
Yay! my internet is back! It wasn't without a fight. The Bright House tech guy comes today for our appt. Then when he realizes it is a neighborhood outage he says "oh that's another service call, I have to call it in and it will be another 72 hours before we can fix it"
72 hours!!!
My head about exploded. They knew it was a neighborhood outage yesterday and they sent this guy to stand in our house for 15 seconds and tell us it would be another 72 hours! Paul got on the phone with them and got it worked out and it was fixed an hour or so later. Yay! He's the neighborhood hero!
I am now connected to the world again. I felt so lost without my internet!

My internet access has been down all day which is making me crazy. I am at my parent's right now checking email. Bright House Cable came out today because our whole neighborood has been down with TV and Internet (if you had a cable phone those were down too)
The guy fixed the TV connections and then left. The internet is not fixed. My neighboor who has the cable phone says that is still not fixed either.
So I called them back to let them know it wasn't fixed. They said this counted as a second call and they said the earliest they could come would be tomorrow afternoon.
Considering the whole neighborhood is without internet (or phone) you'd think they could have come back sooner.
Now I am really glad I never switched over the cable phone, my neighbor says she is without her phone connection more than it works and she wants to switch back to a regular phone line. She also said when the phone does actually work that sometimes when when she picks up the phone the TV sound comes through the telephone! LOL!
The good news is I have been getting lots of other work done while I haven't had emails to suck up my day. Also good news is that the TV is working so I won't miss The War or Heroes tonight.

monday musings
I love it when I get gifties in the mail! Look at this gigantic box of ribbon that the sweet gals from Creative Impressions sent me! oh boy!! I can not wait to start using it. I plan on making a whole bunch more of my sitting poppets® and this will be perfect!I spent today working on custom artwork orders, my goal is to get 5 sketch orders + 1 canvas order a week. So I am also working on a big PR campaign to boost orders. I sent out press releases to a few magazines, including domino magazine. Hope it works!
Then I was researching online backup systems. I think right now I am going to go with Carbonite. It's fairly easy to use and now I have 1/2 my stuff uploaded for the free trial. Mozy looks really hip and nice but now that I have gotten so far with Carbonite I am reluctant to mess with it anymore. I hate dealing with this stuff. I can always switch later if Carbonite doesn't work out.
After all that I started getting artwork ready for a show I am having at Orlando City Hall, August-October. I am seriously worried about having enough artwork for this show. Since I work so small (9x12 - 16x20) I don't know if my art will cover all the walls that I am supposed to. It is stressing me out. I have to turn in all the label information to them this week so I can't work on big stuff between now and then. akkk! Maybe the other guy who is showing at the same time can just take up some of my wall space!

file back up services?
This weekend I spent some time looking into online file backup services. I am paranoid about losing my files. I have an external harddrive but it has started making funny noises so that's what prompted this sudden search.
So far I have looked at:
Xdrive (their web site gives me a file error when I try to upgrade to the 50GB so I am leary about it)
Carbonite (their free trial isn't working for me right now, grr!)
Mozy (cute site! I haven't tried the trial yet)
Does anyone use this sort of service and can anyone recommend one? Preferably one that isn't really expensive, like no more than $10 a month.

etsy store! well almost.....
I have been working all weekend on an Etsy store and the whole site seems really slow. The images take forever to show up, and not just on my store, on many, many stores.
I stopped uploading items because I couldn't see what I was doing without the images showing up. Grrrr!! Anyone else??
EDITED 8:30pm EST: I checked now and it seems to be working. yay! Now off to watch the Sopranos Finale!!
