back home!

I got back home from the Sue Gilman show yesterday and enjoyed snuggling with Toby doggie and the cats all day long. I even caught an earlier flight so I could be home a couple hours earlier.

Now I am wrapping things up and getting them ready for this weekend where I teach at Ranger U in New Jersey. I'll be gone Friday and Saturday again but this time it's just a short drive from DC which is wonderful to not have to fly. Paul arranged his work schedule so he can be home on Friday to doggie sit with Toby so we don't have to worry about him being alone all day, which is a relief. The way things are right now it really is day-by-day so knowing Paul will be with Toby gives me peace of mind!

Look of the day

This is what I wore yesterday. Finally, I found the cream blazer that was just right. I already had my eyes on this one, but it was sold out for a while in my size. (I returned the one I posted about previously because it wasn't perfect. This one is!) I'm in love with it! The top is also new. It's draped and has a cute zip detail.

Up in smoke

I'm not a smoker myself, but I love to look at pictures of smoking people. (hey, it kills, but at least you look good)

on the road!

I am heading off to the Sue Gilman Show tomorrow to teach tomorrow night and do a make-n-take on Saturday. It's just two nights but I am a little (well a lot) stressed out about leaving Toby but Paul will be here with him (he's taking a 1/2 day from work tomorrow to doggie sit with little T)and I'll be home Sunday by lunchtime.

Toby is hanging in there, some good days, some not-so-good. If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, I am talking endlessly about it. Right now my world revolves around Toby.

It's just a short trip! Sunday will be here soon!!

my hero of the year

Those of you who follow my blog know that my close friend Bernie Berlin runs A Place to Bark animal rescue. She runs this rescue all by herself with a little help from just a couple faithful volunteers.

Animal Planet is having a Hero of the Year contest, the winner will receive $10k which could go a long way to helping Bernie's animal rescue. So I thought if we could get as many people as possible to nominate her, she might have a chance!

So will you help me, help her?

OK!

Here is the link to the contest entry form.

There's a few steps to entering, you'll need:

Her birthday: 9 -17-65
her phone number: 615-681-2631
website: http://www.aplacetobark.com
her email: aplacetobark@aol.com

and her address:
A Place To Bark
375 N. Jones Road
Portland, TN 37148

You'll also need a 250 word or under write up about Bernie, I am including mine below so that way you can use it as reference. Please write it in your own words or it could disqualify her.

-------------------------------

Bernie Berlin is a hero to all the unwanted and uncared for animals in this world. She works tirelessly out of her own pocket to save every creature she can while educating the public about animal care, spaying, and the plight of rescue animals through her blog: http://aplacetobark.blogspot.com/.

Bernie has been running her non-profit grass roots animal rescue, called A Place to Bark for the last 9 years and has found "forever homes" for over 500 dogs and cats last year alone! Estimated total number of furry lives saved since Bernie started her rescue is at 1,300. She has been profiled twice by WITI FOX News in Milwaukee.

Once a month, she makes a 16 hour one way drive from her shelter with a van full of death-row puppies to Humane Societies in Wisconsin and Chicago, where the puppies will quickly find homes in the more urban areas.

She works closely with local animal control volunteers to help them learn proper health care to avoid diseases like Parvo, Mange and parasite infestations etc. She has worked with the ASPCA during puppy mill raids and currently has over 40 puppies at her shelter from a recent raid in Tennessee.

If Bernie were to win Hero of the Year, it would be a tremendous help to her rescue and in turn she would be better able to save countless cats and dogs from a needless death.

thank you for your help!!

Can't buy me love

The sweetest thing happened. A few days back I spotted these silk grey drop crotch pants at Zara (I think I've developed some sort of Zara addiction). I showed them to my boyfriend and he secretly went back to get them!
It's still really cold here, but I might wear them like this on a hot summer day. So many ways to wear it! Did your boyfriend ever buy you a 'fashionable' gift too? Tell me!

Studs and spikes

The first picture is a nice example of the sexy meets rocker look that I really love. The skirt by Balmain must be very expensive, but I found one with big resemblence on Maria´s blog, vanillascented. It's by Gina Tricot, which is not for sale in the Netherlands. Thinking of DIY-ing this, but buying it would have been a lot easier:P

changing the look of diabetes one bag at a time

Those of you who read my blog often know that my niece Maiya has type-1 diabetes and was diagnosed at age 4.

Here's a pic of Paul, Maiya, Toby and I at the 2007 JDRF Walk for a Cure.

Maiya is 8 now and has learned to live with all that comes with this disease. And along with the disease, also comes a lot of stuff that you have to carry everywhere you go just to keep yourself alive. Even just going on a bike ride can mean bringing 2 bags of stuff!

My sister in-law Maria invented her own super CUTE line of bags after seeing all the ugly medical bags that were the only bags available to diabetics. She wanted Maiya to have a bag that she was proud of to take with her to school and out every day, one that people would exclaim "where did you get that cute bag!" and Maiya would feel like the special girl that she is!

Well Maria has done it! Her dream is now a reality and she launched Skidaddle Bags Inc this summer. I am so proud of her! Here's an example of just one of her cute and stylish bags:

As a growing business Maria has entered Skidaddle Bags in a StartUp Nation Contest. She still needs more votes to be officially in the running, so if you have a moment, please check out her web site and then vote here using this widget for Maria!

You are allowed to vote once a day under the contest rules!!

how to make your own glazes

I thought I'd share with you a quick tutorial on how to make your own glazes using Claudine Hellmuth Studio Multi-Medium!

First let's answer the question, what is a glaze? A glaze in painting refers to a layer of paint, (usually thinned with a medium) so that it becomes transparent allowing the surface underneath to show through.

Many times I create a transparent layer of paint simply by adding more water to my acrylic paints, to make a wash. But if you are working on delicate paper using a lot of water might not be the best way to go. For example if you are working in altered book and you would like the text of the paper to show through, but soaking the page with a messy wash of paint, could damage the pages underneath ......

That's where glazes come in handy and it's so easy to make your own! Ready? here we go!

First, place a small dot of Claudine Hellmuth Studio Multi Medium and another dot of acrylic paint onto your palette.

Mix together with your brush
and you've created a glaze! That's it! You can vary the amount of Multi Medium used to make your glaze more or less transparent.

Brush onto your paper and you can see what a nice transparent glaze of color you have created!
That was easy!

Here you can see by the stripe at the bottom the difference between paint applied at full strength vs. the glaze of paint.

You can use glazes to alter the look of scrapbook paper, photocopies, maps, just abut anything that you would like to add a little tint of color to! Happy glazing!

Because I look good in leather

Very nice, these different takes on the leather skinny trend.

Perfectly polished

There are times that I don't paint my nails at all and there are times I do it every few days. As you can see, I'm in the painting phase right now ;) So I had to get some new colors! Which one do you like the most?

Stay Healthy using Visualization

In my previous post entitled, Five Immediate Things that I Do after losing a Job, I considered "Stay Healthy by Being Emotionally Strong" as one of the five things that I am going to do immediately. I am committed to do just that, because we can not afford to get sick. Stress is the most common cause of some major illnesses in our world today. So, we need to be emotionally strong.

In doing so,  I am glad that I stumbled a site which offer a free download of audio and online lessons for the basic technique and method of creative visualization - The Silva Centering Exercise. This is not just any technique or exercise. But this is from the most world renowned - Silva Method. And to top it all, it is not just offered from anybody else out there, but from Laura Silva herself, the daughter of the illustrious founder, Jose Silva—who people credit as a the father of modern meditation.

Yes, I am glad because I am a firm believer of the Power of the Mind. I even bought one of  the books of Jose Silva - the Silva Mind Control Method - when I was in college. Basically, the book teaches about positive thinking, giving you instructions on active meditation and creative visualization. It teaches you on how to expand your mind to increase your intelligence, improve your memory, develop ESP, heal your injuries and disease, and even heal others.

Anyway, the best thing that I got from this site is the free audio download of The Silva Centering Exercise; which gives you the step by step guide in reaching to your "alpha level" (a semi-conscious dream state), where you can create a positive self-image, and turn it into reality. I guarantee you, that when you able to listen to this audio you will be amazed how fast you could get into the "alpha level". I could not get into it just by reading that book since college. I have difficulties in my concentration. But now, wow! It is simply amazing.

So with the help of this audio -The Silva Centering Exercise, I am confident that I could Stay Healthy using Visualization with Silva Method. "...And melt away stress, once and for all." Who knows I can use the same technique during my job interview. How about you? Why not try this free audio from Silva Method.

Income Augmentation Plan

Income Augmentation Plan.  Sounds so executive plan that is. Isn't it? However, this is just a simple plan which I designed to augment our income versus our expenditures.

Normally, the right formula is:
Income - Expenditures = Savings
Meaning my income is greater than the expenditures incurred by us. Thus we are able to save certain amount of money.

However, with my situation right now, where I have no more job, the formula will surely like this:

Income - Expenditures = Debt

Meaning our expenditures is greater than our income. Thus, and most probably, this scenario will forced us to borrow money from somebody or file a loan from banks and other financial institutions.

But, since I am determined to fight and have the will to survive, my immediate "Income Augmentation Plan" is at least like this:

Income - Expenditures = Nothing

Nothing, in a sense that in this situation, we will not be able to save any money and as well as we will not result to borrowings in any form. It is just an status quo. This is the kind of formula which I am going to do. I have to make sure that my expenditures will be controlled and minimize so that my little income could equally cope up with it.

So,  back to reality, my Income Augmentation Plan is to engage in selling. Yes, you are right. Engaging in Selling is the most practical way and most immediate way to augment our income during this state of  being unemployed. Selling any goods which you think are useful to your friends, to your neighbors, and if not to other people is just the right way. Though, this will not give me a big income, but at least my day to day expenses will be answered by this endeavor.

I do not know any other way to survive this situation. But for me, for the time being while I am looking for a job, I am going to engage in selling. How about you?  Well, ...just Wish Me Luck!  God Bless Us All!

toby smile!

Toby was having a good day today so I snapped this pic with my camera phone. I even got him to give me a little smile.

Toby feels good today!

A big change from even yesterday when he didn't feel good at all! Savoring each and every moment I have with him! Yay Toby!

Five Immediate Things that I Do After Losing a Job

Just this afternoon, I decided to buy grocery items in one of the Malls here in our place. And while strolling inside the Mall, I met my long time friend. He was shocked after knowing that the company where I am working is now closed. I can feel his concern. He was so worried for my fate and the future of my family.

Well, I told him that I am trying to do things one day at a time. That, I do some re-prioritizing with our usual way of life. And, below are the Five Immediate Things that I Do after losing a Job:

1. Review Our Spending - we must not buy anything unless these are extremely important for us. Basically, we will spend our money only for the most basic needs such as food, fare and etc.

2. Review Our Household Bills - Electric Bills and Water Bills must be controlled. Unnecessary use of electricity and as well as the use water will be strictly observed.

3.  Stay Healthy by Being Emotionally Strong - Yes we really need to be emotionally strong. We must avoid too much stress facing our life's problem. Because, otherwise this might be the cause for us to get sick and drain our savings fast. We can not afford to get sick!

4.  Make an Inventory of the Things Inside our House - we must segregate valuable things in our house such as jewelries, clothes, DVD's/CD's, kitchen utensils and etc. in order to sell them in the near future if the situation warrants.

5.  Do Not Stop Praying - yes praying as majority of us believers knew that this the only way to make our Hope go strong. If we feel that our mortal families and friends abandoning us then we have an Immortal Family and a Friend up there Who are always with us no matter what.

So, I told my friend that those are the things that I do,  right after I lose my Job. Of course, I told him also about my plans to augment our income while I am still jobless. However, the details of  this will be posted in my next blog post.  Until then... God Bless to us all!

Finding Jobs Online

This is my first day of being a Jobless. It is so scary. Specially, if I am going to look ahead in the near future. I could easily imagine and feel the hardships that me and my family are going to face. Questions keep coming into my mind,  How could I cope up with our daily needs without me having a permanent income? How long my severance money would last? And so on and so forth... Not to mention other negative thoughts, scenarios and images which are stalking into my brain.  Oh My Gosh! OMG! It is really, really, so scary.

But my instinct and will to survive is so strong. I have to fight this negative thoughts with positive thoughts. I am recollecting every verses in the Bible which touches about God's promise for a new life.

So, what I did the whole morning today is to look for job vacancies online. Finding Jobs online is the fastest way to look for job vacancies. Right?

Yes!  I recalled my old account with Jobstreet.com and there I vigorously search and finding Jobs which fits to my qualifications. And you know what?  Just this morning, specifically with in (4) four hours,  I been able to submit my resume and application letter (20) twenty times to different companies and recruitment agencies which are hiring employees.

Wow! this is great.. and I am grateful that I have my Personal Computer to make my quest for job vacancies very easy and comfortable. Thanks to Jobstreet.com too because it has thousands of job vacancies currently posted.

I recalled years ago, when I was a fresh graduate from college.  I have to type with our typewriter machine different application letters and resumes and then bring them personally to respective agencies and companies where I am applying for a job. It was so tedious and so expensive. Expensive in a sense that I have to ask from my parents money for my fare.   Time is really a changin.. as what the song goes.

However, there is one thing that has a big advantage and difference between "applying in person" from the one "applying online". And that is if you are "applying in person" you are sure that your application letter and resume are received by the agencies concern. While in "applying online" you never knew if your application letter and resume are receive or not.

Hopefully those (20) twenty companies and agencies where I am applying will response and give me a chance to work and let me begin a new life.  Good Luck to me! :-) or Maybe you can Wish Me Luck too? Thanks.

I Am Back

After so many months of not writing any posts here since June 08, 2008. I am back!

Why you were not able to post for such a long period of time? You might ask.

It is because my offline job is so demanding that I could not even have the time to write. My job requires me to write and make reports almost daily that even updating my blog was no longer possible.

But now I am back!

Maybe you might ask again, Why I am back? Why do you have time to post and update your blog now?

Well, I do not know if  this is a good news for my blog or not. But, I am now joining the millions of abled individuals who has lost our respective jobs just because of company's closure.

I do not know how should I cope up with the pressing demands of our day to day basic needs, anymore. But one thing that I am sure of,  I have still the "will to survive" no matter what!

And the very first thing that I am going to do right now is to go BLOGGING again. And at least to increase my money making endeavors online. Hopefully, I could regain those earnings which I was enjoying before specially from Google Adsense and Adbrite.

I Am Back! Hope you will support me and follow me again on my quest for SURVIVAL!

Thanks and God Bless to Us All!

this week

This week has been all about Toby, snuggling him all I can and then working while he is resting. He got really sick on Monday but is doing a little better now after a visit to the vet and some fluids.

Each day that he is OK I am so thankful for. I wake up and check him laying next to me in our bed and say to myself. "We still have today." Then I try all day to focus on that and not think about what is next. I want to spend every spare minute with him, so I haven't had much time for blogging.

I do have some great links that I want to share with you, but will post those this weekend. I also have a giveaway too. Will do that soon too! Thank you so much everyone for your many comments, emails, twitters and facebook messages they are so appreciated!!!

snow day

Last night it snowed and snowed and we ended up with about 6 inches! Which is a lot for DC. The city was pretty quiet today, as usual DC likes to shut down when there any measurable amount of snow. it was very quiet out this morning!

I grabbed the camera when I took Toby out so I could capture our little Florida doggie enjoying the snow.

toby_snow_dc2

I thought he would be all surprised by the snow, but he didn't seem to like or not like it - he mostly ignored it. The only time he expressed emphatically that he didn't like it was when the wind blew snow drifts into his face. I didn't like that part either! I am so glad I got to see Toby in the snow at least once! Yay for the March snowstorm!
