Fashion journal

This fashion journal captures some of my past week-and-a-half. Of course I spend 5 days a week working, but me sitting behind a computer screen wouldn't be too interesting to photograph ;)

What are you looking at?
1) The sort of racer back of my new Acne dress
2) Content of my beach bag for a day at Bloemendaal
3) Pink drinks at Steve Madden store opening
4) The same store opening
5) Canvas bag to store my flats in
6) My boyfriend with Pilotto x Kipling backpack

A little gift

At the Filippa K 10th anniversary event (that I blogged about here) I was given this cute, nude colored purse. The thick leather is beautiful - so are all their leather goodies by the way - and just so happened to match my nails! Right now it holds my business cards and it's also the perfect little wallet for when I just want to carry some cash and bank cards.

outfit: Draped darling dress

When I posted the new Acne dress hanging in my room (seen here), some of you couldn't wait for an outfit post. So as soon as the weather allowed me to, I wore it on a Sunday out and about in Amsterdam. I'm still so in love with the beautiful and unique details like the gathered, asymmetric sash on one side, a hidden zipper and a special back. I also like how it’s flowy and layered but still shows my body shape because it’s fitted just below the waist. To dress it down I layered a biker jacket over it, put on peep toe wedges, and done!

hello new jersey!

Tomorrow morning (apparently in torrential rain and storms) I'll be heading up to the Ranger offices for a weekend of art with Tim Holtz and yours truly at Ranger University! I'll be driving, (Ranger offices are only 4.5 hours drive from DC!) and I can not express how happy I am about not having to deal with all the hassles of airport travel. Hop in the car and go!!

I'll be checking in via phone on Twitter and Facebook and I'll try to give you a few little sneak peeks!

Have a great weekend!

Pamela Love for Topshop line

I came across the first images of the Pamela Love jewelry collection for Topshop and wanted to share them with you. As you could read here I'm a fan of hers, so I was looking forward to this. Secretly I had hoped for a few more silver pieces that are a little less detailed... It makes sense though that she didn't want to copy pieces from her line and create another big spike cuff or knuckle ring or something. The feathered jewelry is my favorite. I'm curious how you feel about the collection, that ranges between around 50 and 120 pounds, and what your favorite piece is. Thoughts?

outfit: Sandy stripes

I couldn't think of a better way to spend the hottest day so far than by going to the beach with my boyfriend. I kept my outfit simple - after all you can only lose or damage your accessories - and opted for shorts and a breezy, nude top. Today is the last day of the so called heat wave, so I'm out the door again to catch some sun before I go back to work.

Welcome weekend

How I'm spending my Saturday morning... catching up on magazines and deciding what color to paint my toe nails. Stored my favorite polishes in a glass candy jar, after all they're little colored goodies. Next on todays program; visiting my family for a birthday/early Easter party. Wishing you a happy Easter too! Are you doing anything special on those days (next to stocking up on chocolat eggs?)

At Filippa K birthday bash

Visited Filippa K's 10th anniversary party this week. The event was held in one of their stores, filled with pretty clothes. Since I'm trying (emphasis on trying) to stick with a shopping method of buying one high quality item rather than two or three cheaper ones, it's exactly the kind of clothing I'm interested in. Pretty, clean basics in special colors. Lots of knits and stripes (which, next to polka dots are my weakness). Really wish I had the yellow knit jumper and  the nude and pink striped top in my closet! I had actually been to the store to try them both on before. Unfortunately for me, those are not an option right now because... I just booked a ticket for this summer holiday!

miniature artist studio

After months with tons of exciting work, I have finally gotten to play with a little art just for me. I am back at the Dollhouse Project and still experimenting!

In March I taught at the Inkpad in NYC and one of the attendees was a fellow miniature friend and artist that I "met" on twitter.

When she came to take my workshop, Ketsia brought the most lovely and amazing gift! A mini studio complete with easel and painted up side table. Mini canvas, mini sketch book, tubes of paint and mini paint brushes all that she had made herself. Her attention to detail was astounding! I was beside myself with her generosity and I couldn't wait to do a dollhouse piece with her amazing minis!

Be sure to also check out Ketsia's blog where she hosts Miniature Mondays! She even has a once a month mini club which I am so jealous! What fun would that be!

Here's Betty inside the dollhouse creating an artwork in her little studio! here you can see some of Ketsia's amazing minis!

And because I have had this idea in my head for a long time -- I experimented with drawing my own environment. I wanted to keep the background white with just line drawing. I really like the look but have to experiment more to get the  photography better. It needed a lot of editing in Photoshop to get the whites clean! Maybe time for a better camera! !

Thank you again Ketsia for your wonderful gift of minis!

Shoot you with my Pistol boots

I can't tell you how great it feels to finally have boots with a lower heel that can take me around town all day. My choices were pretty much limited to All Stars and a bunch of really high heels. At first I ordered a pair of Pistol look-a-likes because they were a bit more affordable. Gorgeous, but they didn't fit. So I decided to get the Acne version after all and I couldn't be more happy.

Sydney Zara opening pandemonium

I'm pretty sure my heart broke as I walked into Zara today. It is FILLED with people and it's 4.40pm on opening day. Zara is no longer the domain of chic overseas travellers. Although, the concession is that everything here is the goods are a mix of the overseas FW collection just past and the new summer collection, so at least I can get the Winter pieces on sale and wear them here.

outfit: On the spot

The moment has arrived... my first day without needing a jacket! Oh, the wonderful feeling of riding my bike with the bright sun on my face. I took out my favorite find from Wasteland in L.A. - I covet anything with polka dots - and painted my nails in a color to match the sun.

I'm in Where Women Create Magazine

I'm excited to share that my studio is in May/June issue of Where Women Create Magazine. There's me and Maggie dog on page 110!

wherewomencreate

In the article I talk about how my little folding tables have come with me from studio to studio for more than 17 years and more importantly  ---  it's NOT how amazing your studio is that matters, it's what you CREATE in it that's important!

I am thrilled to be in an issue with such an inspiring group of creative ladies!

Check it out on news stands now!

Taylor's closet

I've admired Taylor Tomasi-Hill's personal style for years, and have grown even more fond of her after seeing her in person at Paris Fashion Week (including in that outfit in the last picture on the right). The easy going, joyful energy she gives off, her stunning hair, skin, posture and equally impressive wardrobe have made her one of my favorites. Taylor looks just as good in jeans and a blouse as in short skirts and heels and what I like about her is that she's but never completely glammed up. There's always an element that dresses everything down a bit, to keep an interesting balance.

Fashion journal

What I was up to this week?
Well... after much debate (it went something like this: buying, returning, doubt, buying again) I scored that retro red dress on sale, was sick and got better with some rest, Advil and green tea, am lusting over jewelry with black stones, and bought a pair of rather expensive ankle boots...

I'll show you in pictures!
1) My new sale find (I wore Nicole's dress before here)
2) Awesome shoes at Acne
3) My fave tea glasses on my sick day
4) I have this coat in my head and it won't get out
5) Oops... can you guess what's in this shoe box? ;)
5) Want a piece like this by Pamela Love
