Once the flesh has disappeared, the bones are removed from the bug room and soaked in water for a period. The non-bone material is then scraped off with a scalpel, and each bone is dipped in bleach and meticulously numbered. The whole skeleton is catalogued before it is put on display, or placed among the 45,000 other bird specimens in the ROM’s vast collection.
Colônia de insetos carnívoros cujo apetite ajudam a limpar os ossos em exposição no Museu. Quando a carne tiver desaparecido, os ossos são embebidas em água por um período. O material não-ósseo é então raspado com um bisturi, e cada osso é mergulhado em lixívia e meticulosamente numerado. Todo o esqueleto está catalogado antes que seja colocado em exibição no museu.
